Autumn / Winter Race Day Fashion Criteria

Will you be the best dressed?

Here are some tips
on how to look the part and to help you
be in the running for best dressed on race day!

  • Style
  • Hats or Fascinators are essential
  • Grooming and deportment
  • Understanding and interpreting current fashion trends
  • Appropriateness of outfit for a day at the races
  • Appropriateness of the outfit for the individual
  • Suitability of outfit for the climate
  • Outfit suitability for Autumn/winter Racing Carnival
  • Originality
  • Hosiery – for autumn, it’s pretty much always a must (unless it’s a boiling hot day)
  • Gloves – Leather gloves look edgy and add a modern touch. Lace can look nice, but sometimes looks tacky. Tread carefully.
  • Attention to detail with accessorising- accessories will be the key, try to co-ordinate your headwear with your shoes and handbag. These are the three key accessories that the judges will scrutinize most, apart from your outfit of course.
  • Make up and fake tans – again keep it classy, elegant and not overdone.

  • Attention to detail with accessorising. eg: Cufflinks, Handkerchief, lapel flower and hat should be considered.
  • Style
  • Grooming and deportment
  • Understanding and interpreting current fashion trends
  • Appropriateness of outfit for a day at the races
  • Appropriateness of the outfit for the individual
  • Suitability of outfit for the climate

  • Originality
  • One detail that women always look at are your shoes, so always wear a nice pair of leather shoes and ensure that your shoes are clean and polished. Leave the work boots and white ‘Saturday night fever’ style shoes at home.
  • To stand out from the pack don’t be afraid to mix up patterns and styles. For example it’s alright to wear a thin pinstripe suit, with a checked shirt and a striped tie. The key to having the perfect shirt-tie combo, is try match a common colour in your shirt and tie.
